In each episode we explore a different culture’s food, through the lens of one New Yorker’s personal story. We’re curious not only about the flavors and ingredients of ethnic cuisine, but how food connects all of us in this diverse and dynamic city.
The podcast grew out of a simple idea: Can you eat at a restaurant from every country in the world without ever leaving New York City?
The answer is: probably. But before I ever got the chance to try, the Covid-19 pandemic hit. Instead of eating my way around the city like I planned, I changed careers from education to journalism.
Nearly five years later, I’m reviving my old quest, only this time I’m interested in another question: In a place as diverse as New York City, how does food bring us together?
And my first choice for a dinner companion was my friend, and now editor, Christina Mitchell, because food has always been at the center of our relationship.
When we first met in 2009, Christina was launching a food blog focused on restaurants in Oakland and the East Bay. I started tagging along as a photographer, mostly for the free food. But the consistent food adventures sparked a friendship that has lasted over a decade.
Whether we’re trying new restaurants, cooking dinner, swapping recipes, or making a podcast, we always eat well when we’re together.
